As Bias as a Fox!

I love Fox News!

As of lately, Fox News has been more hilarious than Comedy Central (see my post titled:Damn it, Comedy Central!“). I’ve been checking out news websites lately and comparing what they see as the “big issues of the day.” Thus far, it has been a laughing riot.

Let’s take a look at CNN (click image below for better view). I have placed Red Dots in front of stories that I found interesting and/or newsworthy.

Not great, but not bad … now let’s take a quick snap shot of Fox News website that was posted at the same time!

As bias as a Fox (the Red lettering and circle were added by me). But, let’s analyze the shock picture/bold headline: Are Hybrids really deadly? No, not at all. Is this story “newsworthy”? No, not at all. Are they trying to make environmentalist look bad? Well, they reported and now you can decide. Apparently environmentally safe motor cars are against the Fox agenda.

The more subtle, but bigger, issue I think we need to look at is the article of General Petraeus’ testimony in-front of Congress. Look at how each Network’s website titles the testimony:

CNN: “Petraeus: Iraq progress significant but ‘fragile’”
FOX: “Petraeus: Iraq Too Weak for Pullout”

Above is a perfect example of bias. CNN states that there has been progress, but the situation is still fragile and in need of more help. It panders to both sides of the political aisle and seems rather unpartizan. Whereas, Fox just blows its load and states “TOO WEAK FOR PULLOUT”! Like Johnny McCain, it appears as if Fox wants us in Iraq for another 50 to 100 years. Cheers!

I noticed this after I originally posted, but there is an article about Jimmy Carter meeting with Hamas. Fox News refers to Hamas as a “terrorist group.” And for today’s website, Fox’s headline changed to “Carter Meets With Terrorists.” I am neither a fan of Jimmy Carter nor Hamas.

However, both Carter and Hamas were democratically elected and representatives of this States whether we liked it or not. Is Hamas a “terrorist group? Yes and no. Do they support violence against Israel? Yeah, occasionally. Do they treat women like dogs? Yeah, frequently. Do you probably not shower very often? Most likely. But they are a politically elected group and run the government (or lack there of) of Palestine.

My muddled point: Hamas sucks. But if we refuse to meet and discuss issues with them then we will make no progress. I don’t see the harm is an American diplomat chatting with a foreign leader about issues. Same thing goes for Iran. It is more diplomatic to meet and discuss our differences than simply avoid.
